After being a dedicated Sam's Club member for 10 years, I am thinking of switching to Costco. A few weeks ago Sam's fired all their sample people and brought in an outsourced company to work the sample booths. Sunday was the first day I had seen these new people and I was even more disappointed than I thought I would be. 90% of them were staring off into nothingness and not even acknowledging the people grabbing samples. I've never cared for the fact the Sam's is owned by Walmart, but I kinda pushed it out of my mind and ignored the issue since I liked going so much. I do enjoy the products and I am hoping Costco will have similar options. Costco is also significantly geographically closer. When we go shopping, it will save time and money to shop at Costco. Hmmm....We are going to go investigate Costco and see if we can live with this switch.

I've been thinking about signing up over at Cosco for a little while. I just haven't been able to take the plunge yet. We gave up our Sam's membership when finances wouldn't allow us to renew (or afford to buy in bulk) and we havent signed back up since. Let me know how you like it in comparison.
eh. i don't really see a point in boycotting a company for trying to stay in business these days, in this economy especially. i'm sure they went over their books as much as possible to figure out how to make the company stay afloat without sacrificing the customers budgets or the necessary employees, too much. our sams sample replacement people are doing just fine with doing their jobs. i just assumed the lack of person interaction was due to being in a new place and getting comfortable with their new jobs.
bri, i think you can renew your membership right now for only 40 dollars. i don't know the details but, we just renewed ours at the end of february and that was how much it cost us. a surprise since the letter they sent us said it was going to be above 100. lol
Yes, you can boycott a company for doing things you don't like. It's about the only real vote we have in matters concerning the consumer market. I ditched Sam's and Wally World a long time ago, because of their business ethics. No amount of savings will make me ever feel good about shopping there. The times I had gone there, you could barely walk around, because there were so many people, and the customer service was abysmal. (Mind you, Costco here is usually ridiculously busy most of the time as well, but their customer service is excellent.)
I think you should go for it, Apryl. There will be some adjustments, because they don't have exactly the same items, but Costco is very competitive and they try to get what their customers want. They also do a lot to negotiate prices. They pulled Coke from their shelves when Coca-Cola was trying to up their prices too much. Similar thing happened with Purina when they wanted to sell their dog food at a higher price with less quantity. Costco plays hardball to try to keep prices reasonable for their customers, because they know people can go other places to buy stuff if the prices go up too much. Also, Costco pays their employees a livable wage.
Thanks Kato. :) We have till Julyish to make up our mind...
Do it! Costco is way better then Sams. Zac hit the nail on the head. Much better service.
